Saving Face

I decided to take a break last night and go watch Saving Face with my gal. I have to say, it is definitely one of the best movie that I have seen recently. While the main character is a lesbian, the film addresses so many issues that are relatible to the mass: (1) cultural differences; (2) forbidden love; (3) age differences; (4) societal and parental pressures to name a few.

Not so surprisingly, my gal and I have different taste in terms of who we found attractive. She likes the sultry, aggressive and mischievous Vivian, while I prefer the awkward, shy, introvert Wil. I think base on looks alone, Wil is by far the prettiest. I am drawn to the innocence of Wil, because I like to tease and play. While Vivian's outgoing personality is attractive (not to mention at times necessary to pry me out of my shell), I think I am just bothered by the fact that she reminded me of my cousin, friends... etc.

Some of my favorite scene:
  • When Wil rather fall than to kiss Vivian
  • When Vivian fell on the ground so that she can kiss Wil
  • Awkward moment at the dinner table between Wil, Ma and Wil's neighbor Jal.
  • Dinner table conversation between Wil, Ma and Vivian
  • Sex scene between Wil and Vivian when Vivian's mom called.
  • When Vivian left Wil to go to Paris
  • When Little Yu admitted that he was the father to Ma's child.
  • When Ma told Little Yu that he can't move in, because she wanted to be alone.
  • The dancing scene when Ma paid a family friend to dance with Wil.

So many good scenes. I told Joyce that we must go back and watch the film again. It is a must have on DVDs.
